The main purpose of the MADA approach is to adapt municipal infrastructures and services to better meet the needs of senior citizens, thus improving their quality of life and giving them the opportunity to remain in their community as long as possible. The MADA approach is financed by the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services and the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais.
In January 2014, the MRC began taking the steps necessary for becoming an age-friendly municipality. More than 1 100 people participated to one of the 7 public consultations in 2014 and 2015, or by responding to one of the 5 municipal questionnaires. These consultations allowed a policy for seniors and its related local action plan to be drafted. These documents have officially been adopted by the Mayors Council on December 17, 2015.
The documents are available here:
By the end of 2015, all the municipalities in the MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais had adopted a Policy for seniors and an action plan.
