Instructions and directives for Seniors (Government of Québec)
Adults who are 70 years of age or older are most at risk of dying from complications of COVID-19. To protect their health, people 70 years of age and over are asked to stay home, except in cases of necessity or exceptional circumstances such as an important medical appointment.
Some essential workers are not required to follow the stay-at-home order. In this case, the risk for the worker and the impact on essential services for the public must be assessed. Whether or not the worker can be protected must also be assessed.
However, seniors can go out for a walk or to buy groceries while abiding by health recommendations. Home delivery services should be used when available.
It is strongly recommended that older adults do not go to the pharmacy to buy medication. For prescription refills, they must contact their pharmacist, at least 24 hours beforehand, by telephone or via the pharmacy’s website. A family member or friend can go to the pharmacy to pick up the medication. If this is not possible, most pharmacies also have a delivery service. (see list of pharmacies in the Gatineau Hills in the Health and Medication section of this website)
During this period, families and friends are encouraged to phone seniors to catch up on their news and ask them to protect themselves.
